Referring to your letter of the 16th Way No.14390 relative to the coins required by the Government of Hong Kong during the present year I have the honour to report for the information of the Secretary of State that we have arranged with the Birmingham Mint Limited, for the manufacture under the supervision of the Royal Mint of 1,000,000 dollars in 10 cent pieces to be delivered in fortnightly shipments of $250,000, the first instalment to be ready about the third week in June and the fourth about the 2nd August.

The terms of the Birmingham Mint for this coinage are as previously, 3 per cent on the nominal value reckoning the dollar at 4/-, but they are prepared if a further order of 1,000,000 dollars be given them to reduce the rate on the whole order to 3 per cent.

In order to keep up the further fortnightly instal- ments desired by the Colonial Government, it would be necessary that the Royal Mint should be prepared to follow on with a delivery of $250,000 on or about the 16th August and continue thenceforward, fortnightly, but as will have been seen from the enclosure to our letter of the 20th April the Deputy
